The 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari starts in Kigali with a city tour visiting, the local food and craft markets, the Kigali Genocide Memorial that was built in the memory of the more that one million people that were killed in 1994.  We have lunch in Kigali before heading to Volcanoes national park the park that is famous for its Gorillas and the Golden Monkeys.

The Park is a home to 12 habituated gorilla families – known as Bwenge, Hirwa,Ugyenda Sabyinyo, Umubano Karisimbi, Susa, Amahoro, Agashya, Kwitonda, and Igisha, Muhoza. These can be visited by a maximum of 96 people at any single day that means you need to book your tracking permit early enough to guarantee your visit.

The process of Gorilla tracking starts at 07.00am local time with briefing from the park authorities at Kinigi park headquarters before the hiking starts, the time taken will depend of the family you are allocated to ranging between 30 minutes to 5 hours with altitude ranging from 2500m to 4000m, after meeting the gorillas you will be allowed to stay with them for a maximum of one hour. Hiring porters is so helpful on top of reliving you of the extra baggage on your hike its also another way of supporting the local community.

At Volcanoes National Park there are 2 habituated Golden Monkey groups that can be tracked on the slopes of Karisimbi and on Mount Sabinyo just like Gorilla tracking Golden Monkey also starts at 07.00am at Kinigi for briefing.
