6 Days Rwanda Wildlife And Gorilla Safari

Our 6 Days Rwanda wildlife and Gorilla Safari adventure will take you to Akagera National Park for wildlife viewing and boat cruise and lastly to Volcanoes National Park for the unforgettable Gorilla trekking experience. Akagera is the only Savannah National Park and a habitat to a number of big animals such as the newly introduced Lions, Giraffes, Buffalos, Hippos, Zebras and so on.

Akagera is a savannah National Park is a just 2-hour drive from Kigali, while in the park you can get involved in different activities including day and night game drives several animals can be seen on the game drive including elephants, antelopes, giraffes, buffalos and many more. The boat cruise on Lake Ihema is another activity that you cannot miss this offers another opportunity to see more wildlife including Nile crocodiles’ and hippos, and several bird species, there are 4 scheduled boat rides on the late 0730hrs 0900hrs 1500hrs and the last one art 1630hrs, private tripes can also be arranged.

Other optional activities can be arranged at Akagera National Park include; sport fishing, behind the scenes- where you meet employees of the park management getting incites of their conservation works; Community Cultural Experiences.

From Akagera National Park we transfer 4 hours to Volcanoes National Park, the park famous for Gorilla and Golden Monkey Tracking.

Tracking Gorillas requires some bit of physical fitness for your own good on the trek, age is not a problem here we have previously booked people as only as 90 years and have successfully tracked Gorillas.

On your Gorilla tracking day, after briefing from the park officials you will be allocated tracking families in the groups of 8 people maximum, finally your long-awaited experience is here, head to the jungle and enjoy the gorillas. You will be allowed one hour to stay with the Gorillas when you finally meet them, head back to the starting point and transfer to your lodge for relaxation. You also have an option of exploring the community in the evening to learn more about the people and culture of Rwanda.

On the last day of your time at volcanoes you will head to the park for Golden Monkey tracking, there are 2 habituated Golden Monkey groups that can be tracked on the slopes of Karisimbi and on Mount Sabinyo just like Gorilla tracking Golden Monkey also starts at 07.00am at Kinigi for briefing.  After the trek you will find your guide for the transfer back to Kigali.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Kigali International Airport

Welcome to the Land of A thousand Hills. Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by one of our experienced safari guides who will transfer you to your Hotel for the rest of the day and overnight. At check in, you will be briefed about your safari and what to expect, the safari do’s and don’ts. Overnight at your Hotel. Bed and Breakfast

Day 2: Kigali City tour and transfer to Akagera National Park

Morning breakfast at your Hotel in Kigali and set out for a half day Kigali city tour. The tour is inclusive of a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site and Museum, Nyamata genocide Church, local markets and so on. Later have Lunch and then depart for Akagera National Park. Evening game drive. Overnight at your Lodge. Full Board

Day 3: Full day in Akagera (Game drive and boat ride)

Morning breakfast and set out for a game drive in the Park. Akagera National Park is a well-known Savannah Park and is located in north eastern side of the country’s boarder with Tanzania. This small park is a home to several big mammals which cannot be found anywhere else in Rwanda. Have your cameras ready and eyes open as you search for the big game animals such as the Elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Water bucks, Bush bucks and the recently introduced Lions. The game drives with in the park normally are carried out in northern sector and these can last for hrs. depending on the day’s animal sightings. Return to your Lodge for Lunch and in the afternoon, set out for the boat ride on Lake Ihema in search for Hippos and Crocodiles as well as other game animals on the river banks. Dinner and overnight at your Lodge. Full Board.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park which is a home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas, other primates’ species like the Golden Monkeys as well as a lot of bird species. The Park is located in northern Rwanda in Kinigi, Musanze which is about 2 hours’ drive from Kigali the country’s capital. Your drive from Akagera National Park to Volcanoes will be via Kigali city and will offer you with scenic views of the different villages with great landscape. Arrive in the evening at your Lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Full Board.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Community walk

Today morning after breakfast, you will be transferred from your lodge to the park headquarters for the days’ briefing about Gorilla trekking activity. Its advisable to park your lunch, drinking water and hire porters as the time taken in the jungle is unpredictable. After the briefing from the Park rangers, you will be allocated your Gorilla family and then head into the forest to search for the gentle jungle giants. Tracking the Gorillas may take a few hrs. to a full day to hike up and down the mountain as this always depend on where they were last seen the previous night. Physical Fitness is highly recommended but also those who are not fit enough, they have the chance to hire Human helicopters (Sedan chair). Upon seeing the gorillas, you will be allowed to stay with them for one hour maximum (Take videos and Photographs). Then later return back to your Lodge and evening visit the Ibwachu Cultural Village (Also known as the ex-poacher’s village) for entertainment and cultural experience. Dinner and overnight stay at your Lodge. Full Board.

Day 5: Golden monkey tracking and transfer to Kigali

After morning breakfast, you will head back to the Park offices for your briefing about the morning activity. This time it will be Golden Monkey tracking. These endangered monkey species are found within the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Unlike the Gorillas, Golden monkey trekking will not take long and are easily located. Return to the lodge for early lunch and afternoon transfer to Kigali city. Overnight at your Hotel. Full Board

Day 6: Departure

Full day relaxation at your Hotel. Later depending on the time of your departure flight, have Lunch and then transfer to the Airport for your departure flight out of Kigali. Breakfast and Lunch.
