Maramagambo forest in Queen Elizabeth National Park

This is the stringent part of the Queen Elizabeth National Park that covers the Kichwamba escapements and all the way to Lake Edward. The Maramagambo topography is so interesting and covers different stretches, which is why it is so suitable for tourism activities such as nature walks, safaris, trails, and other activities. You can decide to have a full-day hike, spending half a day in the forest as you enjoy the scenic views of the forest.

The name Maramanago was given when the two boys went into the forest and they lost their way back home. They had to hustle in the forest for several days, and finally, when they returned back home, they couldn’t even say a word. This shocked the village mates and their relatives and family, hence they called the forest Maramagambo, which described the situation that the boys were in when they returned.

This wonderful forest is found in Bushenyi District and it falls in the part of the Queen Elizabeth Conservation area. This great forest is famous for the presence of the Bata Caves, and it is bounded by the popular crater lakes of the Nyamusingiri and the Kyasanduka. The Mararamago forest is home to sever primate species, including red-tailed monkeys, pygmy antelopes, and, most notably, chimps.

As you hike through the Maramagambo forest, you will really have the best chances of seeing the endcenegered primates such as the L’hoest monkeys, baboons, red-tailed monkeys, the vervet monkeys, the vervet monkeys, the baboons, and if you decide to take the night forest game drive, you’ll be able to see the major two primate species that include the Bush babies and the pottos.

The Maramagambo forest offers the wonderful chance of providing and watching the clear and forest bird species that are found within the forest. The major and wonderful bird species, which, among others, include the following: the white-naped pogeon and the fly catchers at the centers, have made the Maramagambo Forest destination and this much more interesting. The matching ants will always thrill, and the largest ants will go up to 100 meters long and six meters wide.

The spectacular site that will not be left unturned is the bat cave, with the visitors standing on the well-raised platform that was constructed in 2008 for the tourists to be able to see the clear bat caves. The caverns were sealed off from human experience, but at some point in the future, the travel industry decided to reopen them, this time with a view point to avoid any disaster.

Huge snakes can be seen inside the cavern or outside trying to gain some heat from the daylight during the day from the view point of the bat caves. The presence of chimpanzees in the Maramagambo woodlands will pique your interest in following these endangered animals and learning more about their behavior. Climbing along Lake Kyasanduke pit will also provide you with a wealth of information about the district, including tree species.

Visitors can enjoy several activities while deciding to take part in the Maramagambo Forest. These include the forest trail, which you will follow and see a lot of interesting structures. You need to be fit in order to enjoy the activities in the forest.

    Forest trails in Maramagamboo Forest

Although the Palam Tarail is so much interesting as you follow the flat terrain, you’ll see a lot of beautiful things, including amazing tree species, and you’ll learn about how they’re used. For example, the casing tree, which is thought to stimulate female sexual desire, Raphia Palms, which are rich in unprocessed materials that women use to make mats, and the fantastic mythological beast tree, to name a few.

Interestingly, the cascade trail is an 11-kilometer walk through the backwoods to the uneven parts of Maramagambo timberland and through the wetland that takes around 4-5 hours.

As understood from the local tongue or language, the trail will lead to the spectacular water falls of Kilyantama, or sheep-eating falls. Backcloth fig trees, for example, are used by local men to manufacture custom periodic clothing styles, shades, bags, mats, and table covers, among other things.

Other than the above, the Maramagao forest is also an interesting destination for research, especially done by students and other researchers. Please come and book with us at Exclusive Uganda Safaris for this wonderful experience in the Maramagambo Forest.
